BS in Drama (Theatre Management / Stage Management tracks)
Syracuse University — Syracuse, NY
About this program
Syracuse University is a private research university in Syracuse, New York, enrolling approximately 22,000 students. The College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) houses the Department of Drama, consistently ranked among the top five drama schools nationally by Princeton Review, alongside the Setnor School of Music and other arts programmes. The Department of Drama offers BFA degrees in Acting, Musical Theatre, Theatre Design and Technology, and Theatre Stage Management, plus a BS in Drama with a Theatre Management track. Its defining feature is an unparalleled affiliation with Syracuse Stage — a professional AEA/Equity theatre company housed in the same building as the drama department. Acting and Musical Theatre students may understudy professional actors and earn Equity points through work with Syracuse Stage, while the Theatre Management programme gives students hands-on work with Syracuse Stage professionals. This level of professional integration is unique among undergraduate drama programmes in the United States. Distinguished alumni include Aaron Sorkin '83 (creator of The West Wing, Newsroom, A Few Good Men), Vanessa Williams '86, Taye Diggs '93, Arielle Tepper Madover '94, and Jessie Mueller '05. The Sorkin in LA Learning Practicum and the Tepper Semester in New York provide additional industry-immersion experiences.
