Swarthmore College — Swarthmore, PA

BATheatre (General)Swarthmore, PA

About this program

Swarthmore College's BA Theatre program uses the study of all aspects of performance as the center of a liberal arts education, intended to be of broad benefit regardless of a student's professional intentions. The program emphasizes collaboration, play production, and writing as important aspects of discursive thinking and communication. Students engage with courses addressing the processes of play production, with all production for performance integrated into coursework. The curriculum offers multiple specializations including acting, design (set, lighting, costume, integrated media, sound), directing, dramaturgy, playwriting, and solo performance. The program accommodates course majors, course minors, and honors majors, with honors students undertaking thesis projects in their chosen specialization during their senior year. The department is led by Associate Professor Isaiah M. Wooden (Chair) and includes faculty members K. Elizabeth Stevens, Matt Saunders, and Laila Swanson.
