BM in Music Composition
San Francisco Conservatory of Music — San Francisco, CA
About this program
The San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) is one of the leading independent conservatories in the United States, located in the heart of San Francisco's Civic Center — steps from the San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Ballet, San Francisco Opera, and SFJAZZ. SFCM occupies two state-of-the-art buildings: the Ann Getty Center for Education (50 Oak Street) and the $200 million Ute and William K. Bowes, Jr. Center for Performing Arts (200 Van Ness Avenue). Approximately 400 students are enrolled total; the undergraduate population is approximately 215 full-time students. SFCM is accredited by both NASM and the WASC Senior College and University Commission. The conservatory offers the Bachelor of Music in performance (all instruments and voice), composition, jazz (Roots, Jazz, and American Music), and Technology and Applied Composition (TAC). The acceptance rate is approximately 52% — selective but not ultra-competitive; admission is determined primarily by audition quality. 99 percent of students receive financial aid, at an average tuition discount of 57%. SFCM holds a unique distinction as the only music school leading an alliance that combines world-class education with a legendary record label, two prominent artist management companies, and their premiere clients.
