About this program
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) is a private Catholic liberal arts institution in Saint Mary of the Woods, Indiana — the oldest Catholic college in Indiana, founded in 1840 by Saint Mother Theodore Guerin and the Sisters of Providence. The college enrolls approximately 1,300 students and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. SMWC is recognised nationally as a leader in music therapy education, with a long-standing AMTA-approved undergraduate programme and a nationally ranked graduate programme. The BS in Music Therapy at SMWC was established in 1983 and is approved by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA). The programme is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) and provides students with rigorous applied musicianship training alongside clinical preparation. The historic Saint Cecilia Conservatory of Music (built 1913) houses music studios, practice rooms, classrooms, and offices. Cecilian Auditorium (720-seat capacity with proscenium stage) provides performance space for student recitals and concerts. Theatre is available as a minor only — SMWC does not offer a standalone Theatre BA.
