About this program
Saint Louis University is a private Jesuit research university in St. Louis, Missouri, with an acceptance rate of approximately 82%. The Department of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) includes Art History, Music, Studio Art, and Theatre & Dance — and is housed in the Xavier Hall complex. The BA in Music at SLU provides a broad liberal arts music education with a focus in either music performance or music studies. Only piano and voice majors may declare the performance concentration; all other instruments may declare music studies. The programme offers ensembles open to the entire SLU community — University Chorale, Mastersingers, String Orchestra, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble, Piano Ensemble, and String Quartets. SLU is pursuing All-Steinway status, replacing instruments campus-wide. St. Louis's world-class musical ecosystem includes Powell Hall (St. Louis Symphony), the Fabulous Fox, and major opera and choral companies within blocks of campus.
