BA in Theatre
Russell Sage College — Troy, NY
About this program
Russell Sage College is a private liberal arts institution with campuses in Troy and Albany, New York — approximately 150 miles north of New York City in the Capital District. Founded in 1916 by Margaret Olivia Slocum Sage, Russell Sage is coeducational and is ranked #22 among National Universities by U.S. News & World Report. In April 2025, Russell Sage College announced a planned merger with Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences — a gradual process planned to be completed by Fall 2027. Prospective students should verify current institutional status and program stability when applying. The Theatre Institute at Sage (TIS) — housed at 10 Division Street in Troy, NY — is the performing arts division of Russell Sage College. TIS combines practical artistic experience with a solid liberal arts foundation and provides quality live theatre and arts-in-education programming to the Albany and Troy communities. The Institute operates two theatres on the Troy campus. TIS offers two degrees: a BA in Theatre (no audition required) and a BS in Musical Theatre (audition required). Recent graduates have been accepted to the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale. All students do a required intensive internship working alongside local, regional, and international companies including Proctors, Capital Repertory Theatre, Berkshire theaters, and educational institutions.
