About this program

The BA (Hons) American Theatre Arts at Rose Bruford College is a three-year, full-time program offering intensive trans-Atlantic performance training in partnership with nine American universities. The course combines practical conservatoire-level training at Rose Bruford's Sidcup campus with a semester studying in the United States — at a partner institution in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Kentucky, North or South Carolina, or Texas. The curriculum is rooted in American performance traditions and social context, studying canonical writers including Arthur Miller, Tennessee Williams, Lorraine Hansberry, August Wilson, and David Mamet alongside contemporary American drama. Training spans acting, musical theatre, improvisation, physical theatre, playwriting, directing, and devised performance. Collaboration with design and digital arts students at Rose Bruford is central to the program. The course has premiered works by writers including Lynne Nottage, Christopher Shinn, and Jennifer Haley. Applications are via UCAS only. Rose Bruford received Taught Degree Awarding Powers from His Majesty's Privy Council in 2017.
