BA in Music Education
Ripon College — Ripon, WI
About this program
Ripon College is a private liberal arts college in Ripon, Wisconsin, enrolling approximately 700 students. Founded in 1851 in the city that gave birth to the Republican Party (1854), Ripon has a strong liberal arts tradition and consistently appears on Princeton Review's Best Colleges list. The College provides a four-year graduation guarantee for students who remain in good standing and declare a major by the end of sophomore year. The Music Department and Theatre Department at Ripon are both active and well-resourced for a college of this size. The Benstead Theatre — a flexible-space black box housed in the C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts — hosts theatre productions, and the adjacent Demmer Recital Hall provides a dedicated music performance space. Students from all majors are encouraged to participate in productions and ensembles. Ripon offers three degrees relevant to PerformrGO: BA in Music, BA in Music Education (a separate standalone major, not a concentration within Music), and BA in Theatre. All three are Bachelor of Arts degrees within the liberal arts tradition, with no BFA or BM options. Ripon has a student-to-faculty ratio of 14:1. The theatre department produces three shows per year and regularly participates in the Region III Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF). Notable alumni include Academy Award-winning actress Frances McDormand (who attended Bethel University and later Ripon College) and jazz great Al Jarreau (Class of 1962).
