BA in Dance
Rhode Island College — Providence, RI
About this program
Rhode Island College (RIC) is a public liberal arts institution in Providence, Rhode Island — a city often called the "Creative Capital" — and is the only public college in the state primarily serving undergraduate students. RIC consistently describes itself as "unrivaled in music, theatre and dance in Southeastern New England," with programs backed by NASM accreditation (music) and a faculty of working professional performers, educators, and artists. The Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance (MTD) offers five undergraduate degrees: BA in Dance, BA in Music, BM in Music (Performance Concentration), BM in Music (Music Education Concentration), and BA in Theatre. All five programs require an audition for admission. Auditions are open before a student has been formally admitted to RIC — applicants are encouraged to complete the RIC admissions application by their audition date, but admission to the college and passing the audition are both required before being designated a major. Providence's vibrant arts scene — home to Trinity Repertory Company, the Providence Performing Arts Center, Brown University, RISD, and the Festival Ballet Providence — provides exceptional proximity to professional performance. Faculty regularly perform with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, The Boston Pops, and the Rhode Island Philharmonic. RIC participates in the Common Application and offers a Northeast Neighbors tuition discount for qualifying out-of-state students. Class sizes in the music program are 12-15 students, providing highly individualized attention.
