About this program

Quinnipiac University is a selective private university in Hamden, Connecticut, approximately 90 miles from New York City. The BA in Theater is housed in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts within the College of Arts and Sciences. The program is built around the purpose-built Theater Arts Center — a state-of-the-art facility at 515 Sherman Avenue housing the university's main-stage theater, rehearsal rooms, design studio, fully equipped scenic shop, costume shop, dressing rooms, a black box studio theater, and faculty offices. The BA in Theater is a broad-based preprofessional program covering acting, directing, playwriting, stage management, design, theater history, and arts administration. Quinnipiac's emphasis is on creating new work and collaborating with artists who employ new perspectives, techniques, and technologies. The production season gives students opportunities to develop skills with working theater professionals, and the program regularly brings guest artists from New York, New Haven, and around the world to develop new plays and musicals and to work on new interpretations of classical works. All students develop a senior capstone project and a fully developed portfolio of work upon graduation. No audition is required for admission to the BA in Theater. Admission to the university is competitive and is based on academic merit through the standard Common App process. The program director is Kevin Daly.
