About this program
Prairie View A&M University is a historically Black public university (HBCU) and member of the Texas A&M University System, located in Prairie View, Texas, approximately 45 miles northwest of Houston. Founded in 1876, it is the second-oldest public institution of higher education in Texas and maintains a strong tradition of excellence in the arts. The Department of Music and Theatre (formerly Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance) is housed within the Marvin D. and June Samuel Brailsford College of Arts and Sciences and is accredited by NASM. The department trains students for careers in performance, education, and the arts through music and theatre degree programs.
