The Bachelor of Arts in Theatre at Pennsylvania Western University (PennWest) is offered at the PennWest California campus (the former California University of Pennsylvania, now PennWest California — distinct from Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania, which represents the merger of Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, and Mansfield universities). PennWest's BA in Theatre is a flexible program offering a traditional degree as well as two optional concentrations in Design & Entertainment Technology or Musical Theatre. No matter which path students choose, they begin to hone their craft in their first semester and enjoy plenty of opportunities to dig deeply into theatre studies, perform on stage, and build credentials as a theatre professional. PennWest's theatre degree is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST), ensuring a balanced mix of pre-professional training, performance, and a classic liberal arts education. The program fosters a comprehensive understanding of theatre production, from playwriting through to production, and equips students with the technical skills required in performance, design, and technology. PennWest is a Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) institution formed by the integration of California, Clarion, and Edinboro universities. IMPORTANT NOTICE: PennWest announced plans to sunset the BA in Theatre as part of a comprehensive academic restructuring.
