Pacific Lutheran University is a private Lutheran university of approximately 3,100 students in Tacoma, Washington. The School of Music, Theatre & Dance is housed within the College of Professional Studies and offers both professional training degrees and liberal arts degrees across all three disciplines. Theatre and Dance are based in the Karen Hille Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, featuring a 600-seat mainstage theatre and a flexible 150-seat studio theatre, state-of-the-art equipment, scene and costume shops, and dedicated student spaces. Music is housed in the Mary Baker Russell Music Center, which features the acoustically impressive Lagerquist Concert Hall, the Gottfried and Mary Fuchs Organ, and dedicated rehearsal and classroom facilities. The department produces up to 8–10 shows per academic year, approximately half directed by students, and provides internship opportunities at local professional theatres. Artistic Achievement Scholarships of up to $7,500 per year are available in theatre, dance, and music and are awarded concurrently with BFA auditions and music scholarship auditions.
