About this program

Manhattan School of Music's prestigious Musical Theatre Program is the only stand-alone conservatory program in New York City, offering a real-world musical theatre training experience taught by Broadway performers and creators. The program attracts faculty and guest artists who have created and performed in some of Broadway's greatest shows including Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, Ragtime, and Chicago. Students receive comprehensive training in acting, singing, and dancing, with the philosophy that successful modern musical theatre artists must be creative contributors to project development, skilled in digital media, and entrepreneurial self-producers. MSM Musical Theatre students have extensive yearly performance opportunities, including four fully-produced book musicals, one musical in development, Freshman Hello, and the prestigious Senior Showcase attended by invited New York theater professionals. All productions are directed, choreographed, and designed by professional, working theatre artists. The program also offers opportunities for professional musical theatre writers to workshop material with students and encourages students to produce independent performance projects. The curriculum culminates in a fully-accredited Bachelor's degree with a total of 132 credits, combining rigorous coursework in acting, singing, dance, music theory, and humanities with continuous rehearsal and performance opportunities.
