About this program
Louisiana Tech University's School of Theatre has been designated a 'unique area of excellence' in the Louisiana University System and is housed in the historic Howard Auditorium in Ruston. The school provides comprehensive training in performance, dance, movement, stage combat, playwriting, stage management, design, theatre technology, and arts management, connecting historical and contemporary issues of art and craft to professional practice. The undergraduate Theatre program is offered as a concentration within the BA in Communication degree: 37 hours of foundational theatre coursework in acting, design, direction, history, management, and production, plus 23 hours of electives within the theatre curriculum. The school uses a mentor-based, company model for experiential learning. Students can graduate as broadly educated individuals prepared to enter many professions, including careers in theatre, dance, movement, playwriting, stage management, arts management, and education.
