About this program

Lees-McRae College's Theatre Arts program prepares artists and leaders for careers in a diverse and challenging theatre market through an integrated curriculum that trains practitioners to impact their communities through viable arts experiences. The program focuses on five key areas: artistic direction, performance, arts management, technical theatre, and cultural, critical and historical perspectives. Students gain well-rounded training through the department's three public performances per year, where they participate not only as performers but also in sets, costume design, and front-of-house management. The curriculum ranges from basic acting to costume design, private voice, and directing, providing pathways for both on-stage and off-stage careers. Beyond the classroom, students intern with Lees-McRae's professional Summer Theatre company, travel to England or New York City during May term, participate in mock auditions with professional companies, and attend the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC), the largest theatre conference in the U.S., to build industry connections and find employment opportunities.
