About this program
James Madison University's BA in Dance combines pre-professional training with a liberal arts education. JMU does not offer BFA degrees. 'Showing proficiency and potential in dance technique and improvisation is certainly important, but we are just as interested in getting to know you as a person.' PERFORMANCE PROGRESSION: First-year majors perform in Student Dance Concerts and may audition their own choreography. Sophomore year+: Contemporary Dance Ensemble (performing, choreographing, working with guest artists/faculty, professional costume/lighting designers). Juniors/Seniors: Virginia Repertory Dance Company (VRDC) — JMU's pre-professional company.
