About this program

Frostburg State University's Department of Theatre and Dance offers a Theatre major with three distinct specializations, a Dance Minor, and Maryland's ONLY Musical Theatre Minor. THE WOODWARD D. PEALER PERFORMING ARTS CENTER: 'one of the finest recital halls on the East Coast' — featuring two fully equipped drama theatres; the Pealer Recital Hall (one of the finest on the East Coast); a full array of teaching studios, rehearsal and practice rooms. F. SCOTT FITZGERALD THEATRE: Named for the famous author who had connections to the Maryland area. THREE TRACKS: ACTING TRACK: Focus on specific performance training for actors, singers, and dancers. Audition required for admission to this track. 'Pre-professional training in acting, design/technology and theatrical studies.' DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY TRACK: For aspiring lighting, costume, set, and sound designers; stage managers; backstage and event technicians; and technical directors. No audition required for programme admission. THEATRICAL STUDIES TRACK: Geared toward students pursuing scholarly careers and graduate studies, as well as related and integrated fields. No audition required. NOTABLE FEATURE: 'Students often complete two, or even all three, tracks within their collegiate career.' MUSICAL THEATRE MINOR — ONLY ONE IN MARYLAND: Courses include: private voice; music theory; voice and movement; musicianship; acting; dance (Dance for Musical Theatre). Audition required for Musical Theatre Minor. Ensemble option: Opera Workshop (explores opera performance; may culminate in scenes or complete operatic performance). ACTING IN SIMULATION PROGRAMME: Unique partnership between Theatre, Music, Athletic Training, and Nursing — theatre students work with health sciences students in simulation scenarios. TALENT SCHOLARSHIPS: Awarded through the audition process. ALUMNA DISTINCTION: Tony and Emmy Award-winning actress is among Frostburg Theatre alumni. IN-PERSON AND ONLINE AUDITIONS: Both formats available.
