Franklin College is a private liberal arts institution in Franklin, Indiana (about 20 miles south of Indianapolis), founded in 1834. In 1842, Franklin became the FIRST COEDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION IN INDIANA (and seventh in the nation) when it began admitting women. The college has approximately 1,000 students and maintains an affiliation with American Baptist Churches USA. THEATRE PROGRAMME PHILOSOPHY: The programme believes that 'From the moment they walk on campus, Franklin College students find themselves playing important roles in theatre productions.' Every student has the chance to direct, produce, act in, design, and contribute to a performance AS EARLY AS FRESHMAN YEAR. PERFORMANCE SEASON: Four productions per year, including 'a mix of classical and contemporary performances that are selected based on the interests of current theatre majors.' SCHOLARSHIPS: Theatre awards: $2,000-$5,000 per year, RENEWABLE annually. Available for both theatre MAJORS and NON-MAJORS who participate in theatrical productions. Competitive but accessible awards recognising both academic achievement and theatrical participation. PROFESSIONAL CONNECTIONS VIA INDIANAPOLIS PROXIMITY: Indianapolis Opera internships. Indiana Repertory Theatre internships. Phoenix Theatre internships. Disney College Program. Stratford Festival (Canada). JOHNSON CENTER FOR FINE ARTS (JCFA): Opened 2001; home of the Theatre Margot; location of all theatre arts classes and productions. LIBERAL ARTS INTEGRATION: Franklin students' theatre education is deeply integrated with the broader liberal arts curriculum at the college. Theatre faculty work with students across disciplines.
