About this program
Fayetteville State University's BA in Theatre is part of the Department of Performing and Fine Arts (NASAD-accredited). No audition is required for programme admission. The department 'produces graduates who will be leaders and advocates in their respective fields in the performing and fine arts.' THREE CONCENTRATIONS: 1. Media Performance & Production — screen acting, film and television production, digital media performance; preparation for careers in film, TV, commercial, and digital media performance. 2. Costuming & Cosplay — collaboration between the Theatre program and FSU's Visual Art program; studio skills, technical production, and artistic skills for traditional stage and screen costuming and props work through to fantasy cons, Live Action Role Play, and more; classes in makeup, costuming, sculpture, mold making, props, and mask work; may also be taken independently as a Minor. 3. Theatre Education (non-licensure) — blends traditional theatre studies with required courses from FSU's College of Education; prepares for lifelong work with students in educational settings (does NOT lead to NC teaching licensure — that requires the Music Education licensure concentrations). THE ESSENTIAL THEATRE: FSU Theatre's producing arm, The Essential Theatre, provides 'pre-professional training achieved through classroom activities and practical production experiences.' It presents productions throughout the year in: Butler Theater (200-seat; G.L. Butler Building; state-of-the-art lighting and sound) Seabrook Auditorium (1,100-seat; larger productions, children's shows, and musicals) BOX OFFICE: Seabrook Auditorium, main entrance at Murchison Road and W.T. Brown Drive; 910-672-1724; also via Etix.com. FSU Students: free tickets with registration at least 24 hours in advance. IRENE C. EDMONDS YOUTH THEATRE (ICEYT): Est. 1997; Tallahassee-focused children's theatre initiative affiliated with FAMU Essential Theatre — FSU also has youth theatre connections. NC PROMISE TUITION: $500/semester for NC residents.
