About this program
Falmouth University's Academy of Music & Theatre Arts (AMATA) is a purpose-built public arts venue on the Penryn Campus in Cornwall, UK. AMATA hosts a year-round programme of professional performances from globally touring artists as well as local and student talent including the work of graduating students. ALL PROGRAMS — 3-year BA(Hons) degrees, taught entirely in English: ACTING BA(Hons): Progressive actor training pushing boundaries in a creative, collaborative environment. Voice, body, movement, and imaginative practices; digital and immersive technologies; ensemble performance of original live work. Acting graduates are eligible to join Spotlight Casting Directory and Equity upon graduation. THEATRE & PERFORMANCE BA(Hons): Theatre making and performance; foundational skills in voice, body, movement; digital and immersive technologies; global issues and historical contexts; range of texts and original live works. ALSO AVAILABLE with Professional Placement Year (4-year option). Acting/MT graduates eligible for Spotlight and Equity. MUSICAL THEATRE BA(Hons): Rigorous physical training in acting, singing, and dance; performance training for an industry-ready artist; personal brand and portfolio development; AMATA's creative, collaborative community. TECHNICAL THEATRE ARTS BA(Hons): Practical knowledge and skills for stage, theatre, and live event production; lighting, sound, design, and technical production. Industry graduates have worked at: Indigo at The O2; St Just Ordinalia; Royal Opera House; Guildhall School; Glastonbury Festival; WOMAD; Hall for Cornwall. ALSO AVAILABLE with Professional Placement Year (4-year option). DANCE & CHOREOGRAPHY BA(Hons): Skills-focused dance degree; training as dancer and artist; technical and creative development. MUSIC BA(Hons): Industry-focused music degree; professional performance preparation. Facilities: SSL, Audient, Digico, and Allen & Heath consoles; one of the UK's largest microphone collections in higher education; 0.2 Genelec surround system. POPULAR MUSIC BA(Hons): Underground to mainstream; DIY to commercial; acoustic to electric. Alumni: Eva Gadd (signed by Blue Adventure Records within 2 years of graduating); Anna Roscoe (debut EP release). CREATIVE MUSIC TECHNOLOGY BA(Hons): Composition, creativity, and the technical abilities needed to thrive in the music industry. SOUND DESIGN BA(Hons): Sound and its potential to transport an audience; creative sound design for varied contexts. MUSIC BUSINESS BA(Hons): Managing, creating, and innovating in the music industry; marketing, publishing, project management; developed with Cornwall Business School. AMATA FESTIVAL: End of Year 3 — all AMATA graduates showcase work. INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIPS: Island Records; Yamaha; Solid State Logic; RouteNote; Shobana Jeyasingh Dance; Forced Entertainment; A Blaze of Feather; Avalon Entertainment. Visiting lecturers: Emma Rice; Darcus Beese (Island Records' President). BOOKING AGENCY: Fontys Impresariaat Kunsten (for Fontys students) — note that Falmouth uses its own industry networks for student performance bookings. TUITION: UK students approximately £9,535/year.
