Fairleigh Dickinson University's Metropolitan Campus (Teaneck, NJ) is New Jersey's largest private university, located just 6 miles from New York City. The formerly standalone Theater Arts BA has been absorbed into the BA in Art program. Theater Arts is now offered as a concentration within that broader degree. FIVE CONCENTRATIONS AVAILABLE: 1. Acting Concentration — Stanislavsky/Meisner acting technique; voice and speech; movement; stage combat; Alexander Technique; Viewpoints; acting for Shakespeare; acting for camera; stage productions as classroom extension. 2. Musical Theater Concentration — Acting; vocal training (Basic Vocal Technique or private voice lessons); Theater Dance; musical theater workshops (Musical Theater Workshop and Advanced Musical Theater Workshop); history of the musical. 3. Directing Concentration — Directing I and II; scene design; stage management; acting for Shakespeare; stagecraft; comprehensive directorial training. 4. Design and Technical Theater Concentration — Stagecraft (I, II, III, IV); Set Design; Lighting for the Stage; Stage and Studio Lighting; Scene Painting; Design Studio; VectorWorks for Entertainment. 5. Theater Studies Concentration — Broad-based exploration of all theater disciplines; Acting; Directing; Stage Management; performance and production; Movement for the Actor; Stage Combat; theater history. ALL CONCENTRATIONS INCLUDE: Development of Theater I and II (Greeks through Today) Career Path to the Arts (SOAC 3001) Professional Practice: Theater (SOAC 4006) Stage Production and Crew (multiple semesters; 1 credit each) LOCATION ADVANTAGE: 6 miles from New York City. The Metropolitan Campus offers direct access to Broadway, Off-Broadway, film, television, and the full NYC professional performing arts ecosystem. Students take the NJ Transit bus from directly on campus. LONDON THEATER EXPERIENCE: THEAH3339 London Theater Experience is available as an elective in multiple concentrations — a study abroad theatre course in England. ADDITIONAL DANCE OPPORTUNITIES: Extensive dance elective offerings (Ballet I-IV; Modern Dance; Hip Hop; Tap; Theater Dance; Chamber Dance Group; Movement for the Actor; Choreography; Dance Study at NJSB; Stage Combat). TUITION: Approximately $37,010/year. FDU has awarded over $80 million in financial aid and scholarships, with 35% of enrolled undergraduates receiving grants or scholarships (average aid: $30,617).
