About this program
Elmira College's Theatre programme is a liberal arts degree requiring no audition for programme admission. Elmira College was the first college for women to grant degrees equivalent to men's colleges (1855); coeducational since 1969; current enrollment approximately 657-786 students. FACULTY: Sarah K. Chalmers — primary Theatre faculty. FACILITIES: Watson Arena — black box; flexible configuration; Watson Fine Arts Building. Gibson Theatre — 400-seat proscenium; Emerson Hall. PRODUCTIONS: Twelfth Night (or What You Will) — conceived by Kwame Kwei-Armah and Shaina Taub; music and lyrics by Shaina Taub; Gibson Theatre. By D.W. Gregory — Watson Arena. THEATRE SCHOLARSHIPS — Theatre Awards in Performance or Production: Scholarship auditions held in 15-minute time slots in the Buechner Room, Campus Center. Students schedule scholarship auditions separately from programme admission. PRIZES: Daniel Lipson Prize — awarded annually to a sophomore or junior who excels in Performing Arts. Hal Roach, Litt.D. '88 Theatre Prize — awarded annually to a junior or senior Theatre major showing potential for a career in theatre and/or film. STUDENT ORGANISATION: Alpha Psi Omega (national theatre honour society). NOTABLE ALUMNI CAREER PATHS: Production Tour Manager and merchandise for national tours; Business Representative and Contract Associate at Actors Equity; Production Stage Manager and Company Manager in regional theatre; extra work in TV and film; cast members at Disney; working actors in NYC and LA.
