About this program
Eckerd College's BFA in Theatre and BFA in Musical Theatre are offered through a 2+2 partnership with Circle in the Square Theatre School — a unique and prestigious programme structure. Students spend their first two years at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, then transfer to Circle in the Square Theatre School in the Broadway district of New York City for their final two years. CIRCLE IN THE SQUARE THEATRE SCHOOL: Founded 1961. Described as 'the nation's only conservatory housed in a Broadway Theatre.' Located in the heart of the Broadway district, New York City. NOTABLE CIRCLE ALUMNI: Kevin Bacon; Benicio del Toro; Idina Menzel; Maura Tierney. 2+2 PROGRAMME STRUCTURE: Years 1-2: Eckerd College, St. Petersburg, FL. Students build liberal arts and performance foundation. Years 3-4: Circle in the Square Theatre School, NYC. Intensive professional conservatory training in the Broadway district. While at Circle: students placed on College Leave status from Eckerd. Circle courses are transcripted as transfer credits at Eckerd with no grade/GPA value. Two full years at Circle = 63 semester hours / 18 courses at Eckerd. One full year = 31.5 semester hours. Students pay tuition to Eckerd while attending Circle. MUSICAL THEATRE STUDENTS: Take Musical Theatre Dance Troupe courses during Eckerd years — ballet, jazz, and tap technique. SENIOR SHOWCASE: Performed in New York City with professional producers and agents. AUDITION PROCESS: Must complete separate admission requirements for BOTH Eckerd College AND Circle in the Square Theatre School. Circle acceptance is determined separately by Circle's own faculty — Eckerd acceptance does not guarantee Circle acceptance. Auditions held for two days every month at Circle in the Square (in person) or virtually.
