About this program
East 15 Acting School, part of the University of Essex, is a leading drama school and member of the Federation of Drama Schools offering the BA Acting program. The school trains actors, performers, and theatre makers with equal emphasis on developing craft and creativity while preparing students for sustainable careers in the creative industries. Founded by Margaret Bury and growing from Joan Littlewood's famed Theatre Workshop, East 15 combines diverse training methodologies rooted in Stanislavski, Michael Chekhov, Rudolf Laban, Jerzy Grotowski, Jacques Lecoq, and other important contemporary practitioners. Students ranked East 15 as the top drama school or conservatoire for teaching satisfaction in the National Student Survey 2024, and it is the highest ranked drama school in London and the South East and 4th overall for Drama or Dance in the Guardian University Guide 2024. With two campuses—one in Loughton on the edge of East London and another in Southend-on-Sea—both offer quick access to London's West End theatre district.
