About this program
The Hunter College Theatre Department is a diverse community of students and award-winning faculty located in the heart of New York City's vibrant theatre scene. The BA curriculum balances history, theory, and practice by exploring time-honored theatrical traditions and contemporary performance in a liberal arts environment. Students study stage production and the relationship between text and performance through courses in acting, playwriting, directing, history, theory, design, production, children's theatre, and creative drama. The program gives students an understanding of all aspects of the art form through both practical hands-on work and theoretical, critical, and historical approaches. Hunter is the only theatre department in New York City with its own building, the newly renovated Baker Theatre Building, which features over 20 classrooms, six acting studios, a computer lab, sound design lab, and a library with thousands of scripts and books on theatre.
