BA in Theatre Arts
Bridgewater State University — Bridgewater, MA
About this program
Bridgewater State University's Theatre Arts program is designed to develop skills in and appreciation of subjects related to performance and production in live theatre. The curriculum integrates practical training in stagecraft, acting, design, production, and theatre criticism with a thorough grounding in theatre history and literature, emphasizing liberal arts values while equipping students with professional tools used in contemporary theatre. Students benefit from intimate, hands-on learning guided by experienced theatre professionals, with the department mounting four mainstage productions each academic year—typically two plays, a musical, and an experimental piece—staged in the university's 1,300-seat Rondileau Student Union Auditorium. Beyond the mainstage season, students engage through The Ensemble Theatre, a student-driven club that produces studio and workshop pieces, and through practicum courses that provide academic credit and foster peer collaboration, creative agency, and leadership experience. Graduates pursue varied careers as performers, designers, educators, stage managers, playwrights, or arts administrators in major theatre hubs like Boston, New York, and Chicago, or pursue graduate training in the U.S. and abroad.
