BFA in Musical Theatre
Boston Conservatory at Berklee — Boston, MA
About this program
Boston Conservatory at Berklee's BFA in Theater: Musical Theater is one of the most prestigious musical theater programs in the country. It has been ranked in Playbill's "Big 10" most represented colleges on Broadway for seven consecutive years (2017–2025), and was named the best undergraduate theater program in Massachusetts (OnStage, 2018). The program is located in Boston — ranked the third best city in the United States for musical theater, home to nearly 100 theater companies. The four-year, 120-credit curriculum trains students as multi-dimensional 21st-century theater artists with intensive work in acting, singing, movement, dance, voice and speech, text analysis, musical theater history, piano, and the collaborative process. In years one and two, students move through foundational coursework in small cohorts. In years three and four, students deepen advanced techniques and can choose specializations in directing, devised theater, dance, playwriting, or songwriting. Students also build an "actor's toolkit" addressing mental/physical wellness, nutrition, stage intimacy, and diversity and inclusion. Students may also pursue a minor in Africana Studies or Creative Entrepreneurship. The program is part of Boston Conservatory at Berklee, which merged with Berklee College of Music in 2016. The conservatory has approximately 280 theater majors across undergraduate and graduate levels with a 5:1 student-faculty ratio.
