About this program

The acting option in Ball State’s Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) theatre program offers an innovative and demanding training curriculum consisting of rigorous and varied coursework, a strong foundation in movement-based approaches, and an emphasis on synthesizing the body, voice, and mind. We challenge our students to be thinkers, athletes, responsible citizens, and motivated theatre artists who will make a difference in creating the next generation’s voice. The acting option’s BFA curriculum focuses on the whole theatre artist, letting you train as a creator of new material as well as an interpreter of existing material. The acting curriculum is inspired by the training methodologies of Bogart, Grotowski, Stanislavski, and Linklater, and includes coursework in devising, dialects, Shakespeare, and stage combat. We are committed to your personal development as an individual artist. This means helping you discover the best version of yourself and the stories you want to tell. Learning to collaborate generously in an ensemble setting is a major focus of the program and one of the most important ways we help prepare you for the professional world. You will have on-campus workshops with industry professionals throughout your four years, as well as the opportunity to audition for senior showcases in New York and Chicago, plus an LA Experience in Los Angeles.
