Asbury University — Wilmore, KY
About this program
Per the official program description: “The foundation for the worship arts major is a broad set of customizable classes ranging from worship theology and history to specific worship leading skills. The range of classes in music, drama, media, and graphic design, prepare students to be well rounded leaders.” “With this foundation, you can specialize in one (or more) of three areas: music, drama, or visual arts. - Music: The music track features classes in contemporary music theory and song writing and being a part of one of Asbury’s worship bands. - Drama: Classes in the dramatic arts focus on acting, directing, screenwriting, and design. - Visual Arts: The visual arts include courses such as Photography, Audio Production, and Television Studio Production.” “The Worship Arts program offers many experiences to serve churches and the Asbury community. In addition to helping lead chapel bands, our students provide worship leadership in various university activities like worship nights, WHAM (Worship Him At Midnight), and class events.” Program is housed in the Miller Communication Arts building. Distinction from Music: “In music, you are very classically driven and you have to study theory and have classical training” (per junior David Keener); Worship Arts is focused on contemporary worship context.
